Voices of Counterculture in the Southwest is a project that was showcased at the New Mexico History Museum from April 2017 to February 2018. This project was dedicated to celebrating the 50 years of New Mexico Counterculture that has helped to shape the Southwest since the infamous “Summer of Love” in 1967. Bringing together art collections, historical photographs, and presentations of those that lived the history, this exhibit drew together many aspects of Southwestern culture in celebration of its historical yet controversial tale. Below are stories told through the voices of several Taoseños as they describe their experiences with Southwestern Counterculture. These recordings were created through a collaborative endeavor between the UNM-Taos Library, the Digital Media Arts Program, and the New Mexico History Museum called the Turn On, Tune In Community Storytelling Project. There is also a book from the exhibit edited by Jack Loeffler and Meredith Davidson that is available at the UNM-Taos Library.
