In January 1970, the Taos Pueblo delegation met with Senator Fred Harris, of Oklahoma (and husband of LaDonna Harris) to ask for his support in backing Blue Lake legislation. This was a somewhat unconventional move, since Taos Pueblo was not part of his constituency, but it proved to be a very savvy choice as Senator Harris proved to be a very passionate and important advocate for H.R. 471.
